Craftsman wood front door

This Craftsman-style wood door is one of our go-tos. It features six glass window panes with a natural wood grain and unique knots. There are six different stain options — black, clear, gray, Provincial, Red Chestnut, and Red Mahogany — or you can purchase it unfinished and choose your own stain. We love this rustic exterior door on Craftsman-style homes, bungalows, and cozy cottages.

In the design above, we used the same stain on the front door, columns, fence, and lintels to create a cohesive look. All these wood elements add warmth to the design.

We used the door again in this design with a different stain to match the Bahama shutters, garage door, columns, and accent wall. We also incorporated large sidelights to allow plenty of natural light into the home. Opting for a natural wood look for the front door creates a cozy, welcoming vibe in the entry area.

This door also looks lovely painted. Above, we suggested painting it with Sherwin Williams’ Pure White to match the trim, porch columns and railing, garage door, eaves, fascia, and soffits. All the white accents create a nice contrast with the siding, which is rendered in Benjamin Moore’s Amherst Gray.

Contemporary wood front door

With six horizontal glass windows and sleek hardware, this wood front door has a decidedly contemporary feel. This minimalist door comes unfinished, so you can easily customize it to match the rest of your exterior.

In the rendering above, we recommended painting the door black to match the home’s metal roof and vertical siding. An awning above the door and the planters and light fixtures on each side help make it a focal point.

Below, we rendered the door in Sherwin Williams’ Seaworthy for a fun pop of color. We love how our designers suggested this contemporary door for this painted brick home rather than a more traditional option.

The design below uses this contemporary door twice to create double entry doors. Instead of matching all of this home’s wood elements, we rendered the front and garage doors with a lighter stain than the columns and lintels. This decision adds visual interest to the home and helps the front doors stand out.

Frosted fiberglass front door

Elevate your entry area with this elegant exterior door with tempered decorative glass. In addition to its good looks, this door boasts a bunch of functional benefits too. This low-maintenance product features a frame that’s waterproof and rot-resistant and fiberglass panels designed to withstand harsh weather conditions. This door is also Energy Star qualified, meaning it can help bring down your energy costs.

For the design above, we suggested the black version to match the home’s windows, but the door also comes in white. You can also paint it (more on that below)!

The owner of the home above wanted a more modern look for their property in Arizona, and this sleek door helps achieve the desired aesthetic. It pairs perfectly with the modern garage door and new windows. The door also stands out against the light siding, rendered in Benjamin Moore Smoke Embers.

A mid-century modern home with a blue front door

We also love using a painted version of this exterior door, most frequently on mid-century modern homes, such as the one above. The bold, bluish hue makes the door pop against the wood siding. Painting your front door a statement-making shade is an easy way to incorporate some color into your exterior design.

Smooth fiberglass front door

The Home Depot exterior doors in this design are actually on the second floor, not the first. We used the same door twice on the upper level to create symmetry. Because it’s made mostly from glass, this door is a great option for second-story rooms leading out to a balcony (as seen above), but it can also be used as a main entry door.

We also frequently use this door as a side door. Here, it matches the home’s windows and looks lovely juxtaposed with the dark siding and light stone. We love how this door offers the homeowners an unobstructed view of their outdoor dining space.

Finally, here’s an example in which we used this as a front door option. The black door frame adds just a touch of contrast to this mostly off-white exterior. It also matches the new light fixtures and planters that frame it.

In addition to black, this door comes in a variety of other colors, including white, red, and silver.

Aluminum storm door

Of all the Home Depot exterior doors featured in this roundup, this one is one of our most-used — typically as a secondary door, as demonstrated above. This full-light door features a large section of glass to maximize views. Don’t worry about all the glass though — it’s thermally tempered safety glass, which is stronger and safer than traditional glass.

Other color options include Almond, Sandtone, Terratone, and White.
