Our Top Exterior House Color 2024

After reviewing the designs we’ve completed and client requests received this past year and considering the trends we’re seeing in the industry, we’re excited to announce the top exterior house color 2024 has to offer.

But before we share our pick for the top exterior house color of 2024, let us explain our process further. First, we looked back at the hues we selected in 2023 and 2022. Sherwin Williams’ Mountain Road (our 2023 pick) made its way into tons of our designs this past year and will continue to do so in 2024. Benjamin Moore’s Black Beauty (our selection for 2022) is still a go-to of ours.

We also looked at our lists of the best Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams paint colors for 2024 (check them out here and here). We then narrowed down these lists to create our roundup of the top exterior house colors of 2024. Finally, we declared Sherwin Williams’ Cyberspace our top exterior house color for 2024. Keep reading to learn more about Cyberspace and see how we’ve incorporated it into our designs so far.

A home rendered in Cyberspace, one of the top exterior house colors 2024 has to offer

Why we love Cyberspace

Darker exteriors are becoming increasingly popular, and Cyberspace is a great option for those who want to embrace the trend but don’t want to go as dark as a true black. And while it is on trend, Cyberspace has a timeless appeal, which means your home won’t look dated in a few years if you use the hue on your exterior. Cyberspace manages to feel sophisticated and inviting at the same time and can seriously elevate your curb appeal.

The wood siding and doors really pop against Cyberspace in the design above. The concrete bench and column bases, plus the modern cable railings and black light fixtures and trim all work in harmony with the two types of siding and natural elements.

Sherwin Williams’ Cyberspace: The specs

With an LRV of 6, Cyberspace is definitely a dark hue. (Learn all about LRV, including why you must take it into consideration when painting your home, here.)

Sherwin Williams describes Cyberspace as a cool charcoal black, but it has the appearance of a toned-down navy hue. The navy will shine through more if your home gets lots of natural light, but in the shade, Cyberspace can look a bit blackish. (If you’re looking for a more traditional navy hue, check out this roundup.)

Cyberspace as an accent

While Cyberspace certainly has main character energy and we do often use it as a home’s primary paint color, it also makes for a stunning accent hue. On the home above, Cyberspace is used on the fascia and soffits, while Sherwin Williams’ Drift of Mist is seen on the stucco. The shutters and Juliet balcony are rendered in Sherwin Williams’ Dorian Gray. Utilizing a darker hue like Cyberspace in this design adds some much-needed contrast.

Above, Cyberspace is used on a small section of horizontal siding. We love the way Cyberspace complements the home’s red brick and the black garage doors and awnings. Not all paint colors will work with natural brick, but as this design demonstrates, Cyberspace certainly does.

If you like Cyberspace but aren’t sure you want to use it as a main or accent color, try using it on a smaller design element. Above, our designers used it on the shutters of this charming home. The blue in Cyberspace plays well with the stucco color — Sea Salt, a calming shade of blue-green that made our list of the best Sherwin Williams’ paint colors for 2024.

You could also use Cyberspace on your front door! As we’ll discuss more below, Cyberspace is incredibly versatile.

We always recommend sampling and testing paint colors before committing. Factors such as natural lighting, undertones, and your property’s fixed elements will have a significant impact on how a color will appear on your exterior. Our friends at Samplize offer extra-large 9 x 14.75 inch peel-and-stick paint samples of the colors we love for exteriors. Order your ‘Real Paint, No Mess’ samples from Samplize here.

The versatility of Cyberspace

As a neutral, Cyberspace is highly versatile. It’s a gorgeous, grounding color with a wide range of applications. Cyberspace looks fantastic on homes across exterior design styles. From contemporary dwellings to Victorian-style homes to industrial houses, you really can’t go wrong. The list of building materials Cyberspace works with is just as long as the home styles it looks good on. Brick, stucco, lap siding, shake siding… the possibilities are seemingly endless.

We use Cyberspace as both a field color and an accent hue. It looks particularly lovely with rich wood and black or near-black hues but also pairs nicely with whites, off-whites, and greiges. Some shades we recommend pairing with Cyberspace include Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace or White Dove, Sherwin Williams’ Alabaster, and Tricorn Black (above), also by Sherwin Williams.

Stone siding or accents and copper fixtures are also safe choices for homes painted with Cyberspace.

As we touched on earlier, if your home has a combination of brick and siding on the exterior, Cyberspace is a smart option for the siding color. The owners of the home above requested that we keep their existing brick and help them choose a siding color to complement it. Cyberspace enhances the exterior without taking attention away from the charming brick.

Cyberspace is also an excellent color choice for commercial properties, as demonstrated above and below. Here, we’ve used it on some of the stucco on this apartment building. The remainder of the stucco, along with the concrete and siding, is rendered in Sherwin Williams’ Foster. We used Tricorn Black on the door, eaves, and trim, and incorporated wood accents for warmth.

In this rendering, Cyberspace doesn’t take up a ton of real estate on the façade of this office building, but its impact is still noteworthy. It’s used on the trim to create a crisp contrast with the white stucco. Stone and wood accents round out the look and provide the building with a welcoming exterior.

Sherwin Williams’ Cyberspace: In Conclusion

As demonstrated in this post, we’ve already made great use of Cyberspace in our exterior designs — but we’re just getting started. We can’t wait to continue using this hue in 2024 in new and exciting ways. This versatile shade offers plenty of possibilities, and we’re eager to show our clients how it can elevate their home exterior.
