Olive Green Color Siding for Georgia New Build

When building a new home, the decisions to be made are nearly endless. In this often-overwhelming string of choices, one of the most impactful is the home’s exterior color palette. Because your exterior is the first thing both you and your guests see when you arrive, it’s a choice that many homeowners struggle with. Especially because there are countless colors available, from an olive green color to classic white to black.

When Kelly C. and her family began construction on their new home, they knew they wanted a home exterior that stood out. While many homes in the area looked similar, Kelly wanted something distinct that represented both her personal style and reflected the style of the home. But she wasn’t sure where to begin.

Instead of deciding on her own, she enlisted the help of the design experts at brick&batten to help her find the perfect color palette.

brick&batten’s virtual exterior design services are ideal for those who need help bringing their exterior vision to life. The before

Kelly was a bit stressed by all the decisions that needed to be made throughout the new build process. When it came to the exterior, she wanted to outsource the choices to the experts to ensure her new home looked exactly as she envisioned.

The thought of all of the decisions to make related to a new build is overwhelming — especially to someone who does not enjoy that type of thing. After spending a lot of time on the brick&batten site and reading many reviews, I took the chance.

She knew she wanted something a bit different that set her exterior apart from the other new builds in the area — and brick&batten’s virtual exterior design services were the perfect way to find the ideal darker color palette she was hoping for.

I sent in our drawings and provided the guidance that we were open to any variety of materials like brick, stone, or stucco, and I let our consultant know I was not afraid of darker colors. I had only one caveat: No white house with black trim that you see on every new build in our area.

Once she provided our team with insight into her likes and dislikes, they started pulling together an eye-catching exterior approach for Kelly’s new build.

The design

Though Kelly initially thought she wanted a dark color palette, our designers first created a lighter option for her exterior color palette. They recommended Oyster Bay by Sherwin Williams for the siding with Steam by Benjamin Moore and Urbane Bronze by Sherwin Williams as accent colors. When paired with charcoal gray singles and black metal roofing, this created a dreamy, mid-toned color palette. Hints of natural stone siding and wood details added dimension to create a beautiful Craftsman feel.

Using her free revision, Kelly made some tweaks to the exterior color scheme to bring her vision to life. She wanted something rich and earthy as the base — and darker than Oyster Bay — to stand out and reflect her home’s wooded surroundings. As an alternative, our team recommended Dakota Woods Green by Benjamin Moore. This warm, rich hue would enhance the Craftsman architecture of her new home.

The green shade pairs perfectly with Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore on the trim and Tricorn Black by Sherwin Williams on the shutters. Revere Pewter is a neutral greige shade that beautifully blends gray and beige. With an LRV of 2.45, Tricorn Black is a neutral true-black shade that pairs well with any color — making it the ideal option to round out this dark color palette.

To complete Kelly’s design, our team recommended wooden double front doors, bronze light fixtures, and sleek black windows. This stylish mix of finishes pairs perfectly with her color palette to add dimension and elegance to Kelly’s final exterior.

The entire design process was very seamless. My designer was very professional and responsive. I even needed to make a revision once in the process due, and it was taken care of very promptly.

We always recommend sampling and testing paint colors before committing. Factors such as natural lighting, undertones, and your property’s fixed elements will have a significant impact on how a color will appear on your exterior. Our friends at Samplize offer extra-large 9 x 14.75 inch peel-and-stick paint samples of the colors we love for exteriors. Order your ‘Real Paint, No Mess’ samples from Samplize here.

The process

Once her brick&batten design deliverable was complete, Kelly and her husband got started on their exterior upgrades. They used the deliverable as a guide for all of their vendors, ensuring that everyone was on the same page throughout the process.

We had the specs from brick&batten blown up to very large color copies and held the framers, painters, and other vendors to the design. We made a couple of tweaks where necessary, but they were very minor.

After about 18 months of work, Kelly’s new exterior was complete.

The actual after

Once Kelly’s exterior was complete, it was nearly identical to her initial design rendering. The Craftsman-style home features a mix of siding styles, all finished in olive green. The Revere Pewter trim adds a nice, bright pop while black accents — like the roof, windows, shutters, and gutters — offset the earthy green tone.

The deep green shade nicely complements the stone detail, enhancing the stone’s natural multi-colored pigment and offering even more dimension. Finally, wooden beams and lush landscaping complete the look to deliver an eye-catching exterior. The result is a wonderfully moody color palette.

It is beautiful. The first thing visitors (we don’t really have neighbors) say is ‘Wow!’ I love the color, so I would call it a success! This design, color, and material selection just fit very well in our setting.

An olive green color that stands out

New build exteriors don’t have to be cookie cutter. Kelly’s rich and warm exterior showcases exactly how creative you can be when it comes to selecting your color palette. While classic shades like white, beige, and black will never go out of style, other hues are also equally timeless.

Olive green color siding walks the perfect line between classic and modern, making it the ideal choice for those looking for something unexpected and unique. When paired with greige and black, it strikes the perfect balance and creates a memorable exterior color palette.
