Breed cohesion

Our brick&batten designers are experts at leveraging specific design elements to create a cohesive façade. We complemented the deep blue siding with warm wood elements throughout. From the fence, porch trim and columns, and front door to the window trim on the dormers and the supports of the garage awning, the wood keeps this design grounded.

We like to draw inspiration for garage door awnings from similar exterior elements to keep a consistent appearance. For this home, we mimicked the look of the porch with the same stain of wood and the same color of metal roofing. This consistency is profound here since the white doors on the garage are only tied together with the window trim. In other words, the awning keeps the white garage doors from looking out of place.

Differentiate the garage

Our designers often use garage door awnings to define an architecturally interesting garage. This ranch breaks apart the layout of the garages. While the roof of the one on the left seamlessly flows from the roof on the house, the one to the right comes up to a peak. The garage isn’t the only gabled end of the home, though — and we wanted to tie the two gabled sections together.

Since we used olive green vertical siding to break up the red brick on the gabled left side of the home, we did the same with that right-side garage. Drawing even more attention to the garage (and making it stand out further), we used a sleek awning above the door.

Amplify a stand-alone garage

This unique design features both an attached 3-car garage and a stand-alone garage off to the side of the home. To draw the eye to the individual one, we added a garage door awning. Our designers maintained cohesion with the two garages by using the same door. We also accentuated the awning by flanking the door with mounted lanterns and planters.

Modern garage door awnings

If a sleek, contemporary aesthetic speaks to your design goals, there are tons of modern garage door awnings to explore. We love the industrial flare this iron and wood awning adds to the garage. Plus, the warmth of the wooden garage doors is enhanced by the mounted lights on the underside of the awning. We kept the industrial vibes going with the light fixtures, stone columns on the portico, and the Corten steel planter near the entry.

Matching endcaps

If you have awnings anywhere on your exterior, garage door awnings can be a great addition to bring symmetry to the façade. On each of the white ends of the house, we used black awnings to tie the palette together. The awning above the garage doors matches the one used on the other end of the home, neatly capping the design.

Complement the porch roof

We appreciate garage door awnings that blend in with other design elements on an exterior. For this design, we picked a garage door awning with a look similar to the metal roof extending out over the porch. These sleek black awnings are subtly complimeneted throughout the design by the light fixtures, front door, rain chain, and patio furniture.

Link to the porch

The layout of this contemporary design allowed the opportunity to connect the coverage between the porch and the garage. We used an awning above the garage door that has the same look as the roof above the portico. Our designers layered the two coverings, allowing extra protection from the elements no matter which access point the homeowner (or visitor) needs to use. Of course, we tied the spaces together by using the same light fixtures and materials.

Elongate the garage

Garage door awnings are a great way to give the illusion of length to the garage. Here, the awning sprawls over the spread-out 3-car garage, infusing the space with more dimension. This awning also adds another layer of texture to the garage, complementing the combination of vinyl and shake siding. Our designers also accentuated with planters between each side of the doors and mounted fixtures on both ends.

Elevate the aesthetic

There are tons of garage door awnings to choose from, and our designers know how to make a selection that supports the ambiance of your exterior. This design leans into a warm, inviting aesthetic. We went with a charming, whimsical vibe for the garage awning, which complements the materials used on the porch. This style blends beautifully with the rest of the elements on the garage.

Define the midpoint

This design features a layered layout for the garage which brings a lot of visual interest to the façade. Our designers appreciated the unique layout of the garage being in the center of the design. To draw the eye, we welcomed an awning to the single garage door on the gabled part of the garage. This awning creates a more dynamic space, which stands out and brings more definition to the middle of the layout.

We also implemented some subtle details to call attention to the awning. On each side of the garage door, we included plants, enhanacing the natural feel brought on by the stone and wood of the garage.

Create contrast

There is something breathtaking about a simple color palette, and this soft yellow and white scheme brings a lot of charm to this ranch. Down to the landscaping, everything leans into a light, whimsical vibe. To add a bit of contrast to the garage, we used an awning with a black metal roof. Still, we kept the look consistent, using white supports for the awning that match the pergola above the patio.
