Brick Paint Provides Modern Refresh for Texas Home

To paint or not to paint? That’s a question many owners of brick homes struggle with. When Keri S. decided to update her brick home exterior, she wasn’t sure if painting it was the right choice, so she turned to us to help her visualize what it might look like.

Now that Keri’s renovations are complete, we’re excited to share her story. Read on to see how brick paint and other design elements transformed Keri’s exterior.

The before

Keri’s home exterior consisted of red brick and light-colored siding with a matching garage door. The entry area was dark, and the house’s overall appearance was a bit dated.

The design

Since Keri was interested in seeing what her home would look like with painted brick, we provided her with a few design options with the brick rendered in some of our favorite hues

The first design, above, features Benjamin Moore’s Light Pewter on the brick, Galveston Gray on the siding, and Black Beauty on the trim, fascia, and soffits. Our design also includes a contemporary front door, a new garage door and windows, a courtyard with a planter wall and outdoor furniture, a black roof, a new driveway, and updated light fixtures.

Next, we rendered the brick with Sherwin Williams’ Accessible Beige and the siding with Adaptive Shade

Here, we kept Accessible Beige on the brick but went with a slightly darker hue — Sherwin Williams’ Cast Iron — on the siding. We love the contrast created by these two colors and the black accents.

In this rendering, we used Sherwin William’s Fawn Brindle on the brick and Shoji White — one of our favorite off-white hues — on the siding.

We also showed Keri a darker brick option. This rendering features Benjamin Moore’s Iron Mountain on the brick and Desert Twilight on the siding.

Finally, we showed Keri another option with Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter on the brick and Cake Batter on the siding.

It was a little nerve-wracking to consider painting our brick house but to see how it would look through the renderings gave [me] peace of mind that it was going to be great. I had a few questions along the way that were promptly answered.

We always recommend sampling and testing paint colors before committing. Factors such as natural lighting, undertones, and your property’s fixed elements will have a significant impact on how a color will appear on your exterior. Our friends at Samplize offer extra-large 9 x 14.75 inch peel-and-stick paint samples of the colors we love for exteriors. Order your ‘Real Paint, No Mess’ samples from Samplize here.

The process

Keri worked with several contractors to bring her brick&batten design to life. From start to finish, Keri told us the renovation process took about a month.

Keri told us she “was always sending the brick&batten rendering to the contractor so they could see the vision” and found our design particularly useful when trying to decide on a color palette.

It was really helpful to have the paint color swatches — there are a million white paints, and trying to make a selection would have been daunting. Being able to start with the suggestions from brick&batten really helped.

The actual after

A fresh color palette — consisting of Shoji White, Fawn Brindle, and Black Fox— transformed Keri’s brick home into something almost unrecognizable.

Keri also updated other aspects of her exterior, including her front and garage door and light fixtures.

We love the design and it feels like an entirely new house — without the hassle of moving!  Our neighbors are very complimentary.

Using brick paint to transform a home’s exterior

Keri is happy with her decision to paint her brick home and is impressed with the new look.

It is a clean modern look in a very old neighborhood. We didn’t have to tear down our house to get the refresh, and it was extremely reasonable in price for the whole project. Thank you!
