What are the best colors for the fall palette?

Fall colors are most commonly associated with reds, oranges, yellows, and browns. These palettes do extend beyond the staple shades, though, into the likes of deep or muted greens, soft or navy blues, and neutral tones. At the root, fall colors draw inspiration from nature.

Our designers only use and recommend products that we know, love, or would use on our own properties. When you buy through our links, we may earn a commission, at no cost to you.

house with an olive, dark red, and beige fall color palette

1 // Cool green with dark red & beige

Cool greens, deep reds, and neutrals like beige and taupe are inherent to a fall color palette. For this design, we embraced the stalwart autumnal trio for a beautifully balanced design. The cool green stucco — rendered in Sherwin Williams’ Pewter Green — provides a calming base for the façade, leaning into a natural feel. The cool green hue blends seamlessly with the rich warmth of the deep red brick, painted with Sherwin Williams’ Rookwood Dark Red.

Our designers recommended Benjamin Moore’s Shaker Beige for the eaves and trim. The beige accents tie the entire design together with a soft, neutral tone that brightens the exterior and anchors the bold contrast. This color combination creates a cozy essence that gives a fresh, inviting vibe.

2 // Sage green & golden yellow

Benjamin Moore’s Sage Mountain is a lovely greenish taupe hue ideal for a fall color palette, especially when paired with a gorgeous gold like Sherwin Williams’ Marigold. Our designers used the sage green color to paint the brick on this modern design. We accentuated the earthy hue with wood siding on the porch and sleek black porch columns. Complementing the industrial elements throughout, we added a Corten steel planter to the landscaped space in the front yard.

We appreciate a good pop of color at brick&batten, particularly for the front door. Leaning into those colors of autumn once more, we chose to do a golden yellow door. The happy hue is the perfect shade to enhance the warm, welcoming vibe of the porch area.

3 // Dusty blue & warm red

You might think of a fall color palette as the color of the leaves on the trees — deep burgundy, maizey yellow, and burnt orange. These palettes encompass more than just the foliage, though. One of our favorite fall color combinations is a cool dusty blue with a warmer red. For this quaint home, we rendered the brick in Benjamin Moore’s Chiswell Blue. We introduced a second fall-inspired shade to the front door with Benjamin Moore’s Pomegranate, an elegant, warm red that pairs magnificently with greens, blues, and neutral tones.

Pomegranate’s warmth grounds the coolness of the blue brick. Meanwhile, the white trim — which we painted with Benjamin Moore’s White Dove — creates a crisp aesthetic. Plus, as an added bonus and to satisfy the desired leaf-inspired ideal we mentioned before, the red door matches the red leaves on the tree in the front yard.

This contemporary exterior pairs an earthy olive greenBenjamin Moore’s Aegean Olive — with black accents and warm wood. Olive green, with its deep, natural tones, provides an organic feel that blends effortlessly into the surrounding landscape, no matter the season. The Electric Orange by Benjamin Moore front door introduces a burst of warmth and energy, ideal for an entrance. This combination balances the richness of olive green with the vibrant pop of orange, ensuring the home exudes warmth and character year-round.

We always recommend sampling and testing paint colors before committing. Factors such as natural lighting, undertones, and your property’s fixed elements will have a significant impact on how a color will appear on your exterior. Our friends at Samplize offer extra-large 9 x 14.75 inch peel-and-stick paint samples of the colors we love for exteriors. Order your ‘Real Paint, No Mess’ samples from Samplize here.

Mustard yellow and dark red create a warm, dynamic fall color palette on this modern Craftsman-style house. Benjamin Moore’s Mustard Seed, with its rich, golden undertones, brings a sense of warmth and brightness. Paired with the Rookwood Dark Red door and rich wood throughout, the combination adds depth and classic sophistication. Together, these colors evoke the cozy, welcoming atmosphere of fall while remaining vibrant and inviting throughout the seasons.

6 // Navy blue with warm wood & white

Navy blue paired with warm wood and white accents creates a timeless and versatile exterior fall color palette that extends far beyond autumn. We used Benjamin Moore’s Westcott Navy for this exterior. The deep, rich navy blue serves as a bold and elegant backdrop while the warm wood elements soften the overall look, adding a layer of warmth. The white trim — rendered in Benjamin Moore’s Simply White — provides clean contrast, keeping the palette sophisticated and fresh.

7 // Forest green with warm neutrals

For this design, we paired Sherwin Williams’ Olympic Range, a deep forest green shade, with warm neutral tones to create a serene look. We recommended Sherwin Williams’ Analytical Gray for the trim, which builds upon the warmth of the porch columns and steps. The green, on the other hand, enhances the richness of the wood on the front doors and the copper gutters. Every piece of the palette works together to create a cohesive, harmonious look.

8 // Mahagony & taupe

Mahogany and taupe create an elegant exterior fall color palette that effortlessly reflects the warmth of fall. The deep, rich tones of Benjamin Moore’s Midsummer Night, which we used on most of the siding, brings a sense of elegance and depth. Our designers complemented the lush hue this with Benjamin Moore’s Taos Taupe on the accent siding and trim. The taupe introduces a soft, neutral balance that enhances the overall look without overpowering it.
