Greige Paint and Covered Porch Transform Brick Home

Jenny C. wanted to make a change to her home’s exterior. She was eager to make a few upgrades to give it a more balanced, modern look. And while she had a few initial ideas, Jenny wasn’t sure what she needed to bring her vision to life. Between choosing a new color palette, final finishes, and accent pieces, she felt overwhelmed and unsure of where to start.

Her original home exterior featured brick, off-white windows and siding, and an uncovered, off-center front porch. However, she was tired of the current look. When searching for exterior design solutions, she saw photos of brick&batten’s past clients on our social media page. Jenny knew our team would be able to upgrade her home to the elegant and sophisticated exterior she wanted. She turned to the experts before beginning her renovation to set her and her family up for success from day one.

Read on to discover how using greige paint and redoing the front porch gave this Texas home a brand-new look and feel.

The before

Jenny knew her brick home needed a refresh. She had a clear idea of what she was looking for, but she struggled to picture what the results would look like. Because she was hesitant to make any decisions before seeing the final product, Jenny knew brick&batten was the perfect solution for her design needs. Using our design services, she would be able to visualize paint colors, finishes, and the entire exterior before any work began.

I had a vision for our home but was hesitant to move forward without seeing the ‘end results’ on paper first and was reluctant to put money into a project without knowing for sure that it would turn out as I had planned. I had seen brick&batten on social media and knew I would be pleased with the results. The fee was money well spent in my opinion to have the confidence to move forward.

The design

After learning more about Jenny’s project, our team developed an exterior design that brought her preferred exterior style to life. They recommended painting the faded brick with Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter and finishing the windows, doors, and other trim in Benjamin Moore’s Onyx

As a beautiful blend between gray and beige, Revere Pewter is one of our favorite greige hues. With slight green undertones, this color appears different depending on the lighting. The modern hue seems warmer in direct sunlight and cooler in overcast conditions. This versatility allows it to pair nicely with both warm and cool tones and also ensures it works well for homes of all architectural styles — but it’s especially beautiful on brick and siding.

With an LRV of 4.99, Onyx is a nearly black hue that offsets the mid-tone Revere Pewter. As a not-quite-black, not-quite-charcoal shade, Onyx walks the line between true black and gray. When paired with Revere Pewter, it creates a neutral combination with a sophisticated feel that instantly makes Jenny’s exterior feel more current.

In addition to a new color palette, our team added a covered porch to Jenny’s existing side entrance. This detail gives the home a more balanced look, while a new set of front stairs and a stone walkway leading to the main door help create a distinct main entrance. Removing the existing landscaping also opens up the entryway to make the home feel more inviting.

To finish her design, our team added warm accents like a wooden front door and copper light fixtures along with cool-tone elements like black planters and a natural stone walkway and front stairs. The result is a well-balanced, welcoming final design.

We always recommend sampling and testing paint colors before committing. Factors such as natural lighting, undertones, and your property’s fixed elements will have a significant impact on how a color will appear on your exterior. Our friends at Samplize offer extra-large 9 x 14.75 inch peel-and-stick paint samples of the colors we love for exteriors. Order your ‘Real Paint, No Mess’ samples from Samplize here.

The process

Jenny and her husband decided to tackle their exterior renovation on their own. They consulted their brick&batten design deliverable at every phase of the process. They painted, added the stairs and walkway, and replaced the windows themselves to bring the vision to life.

Though they deviated slightly from their design deliverable due to product availability and supply chain delays, they were able to stick to the overall aesthetic and their budget. After over two years, their new exterior was complete.

The actual after

Jenny’s new home exterior is leaps and bounds ahead of her previous design thanks to her family’s hard work. The greige paint shade is a striking neutral, and the addition of a pergola over their porch infuses the exterior with an unexpected twist. They also extended the brick columns on the lefthand side of the home. This not only provides support for the pergola but also creates a more symmetrical feel.

Bold, black railings, light fixtures, and house numbers offset the greige hue. All new windows and updated landscaping round out the design to make their brick&batten deliverable a reality and enhance the home’s curb appeal.

The biggest transformation was having the front of the house feel balanced by moving the steps and adding the pergola. We are very pleased with the final result and receive compliments daily. It was exactly what I needed to have the confidence to move forward with the renovation.

Upgrade your home’s exterior with gorgeous greige paint

There’s a reason that greige paint is one of our favorites for any exterior. This unique, neutral hue gives any style home an instant upgrade. It’s also especially stylish when paired with modern design elements like black fixtures and wooden accents. Perfect for neutral color palettes or even for pairing with bolder hues like navy or green, greige is a timeless shade that will never go out of style.

Whether your home is brick or stucco, a Craftsman or colonial, greige is a powerhouse hue that adds a modern touch. When mixed with a bold shade like black, it creates a striking combination that is the talk of the neighborhood.
