Turn your home blue prints into a visual design

#1 // Black & White Plus a Little Something Extra

We’re kicking it off with the most classic one of the bunch. Black and white are a timeless color combination that brings a crisp look to any home. Dark trim and details really stand out when they’re up against a clean white background. Kick things up a notch by adding a single pop of color or different material, like wood, for visual interest.

#2 // Cool Charcoal

Charcoal exteriors gained serious momentum in 2020 and they’re here to stay. This ultra-modern color sits between black and light gray, so it’s not too harsh but not too soft. Look for a shade with blue undertones for an extra crisp finish. When paired with light and dark contrasting colors, charcoal really sings.

#3 // Bold Black + Choice Materials

A deep, matte black is not for the faint of heart. This rich color definitely makes a statement and lends a distinctive Scandinavian feel when used top to bottom, but it is certainly on trend and many of the homes we design look fantastic going dark. The trick is to pick a variety of materials, like stone, metal and wood, that balance out the color. Then, use potted plants and greenery to bring pops of color to the design.

#4 // Gentle Green

A more neutral version of a soft sage green is making a comeback. Like Chelsea Grey by Benjamin Moore which has warm green undertones, this calming color feels natural while also being sophisticated. It gives a soothing feeling when set against a white backdrop, and it looks right at home next to natural wooden elements like oak doors and shutters.

#5 // Electric Yellow + Dark Gray

Pantone’s color of the year for 2021 is the gentle Ultimate Gray paired with Illuminating, an electric yellow. However, we think opting for a darker grey and deeper yellow will help provide the contrast and balance needed to really make the color scheme work for a home exterior. The company describes the pairing as aspirational and indicative of our hope for a brighter future. Bring a little optimism to your home’s exterior by dousing details in vibrant yellow.

We always recommend sampling and testing paint colors before committing. Factors such as natural lighting, undertones, and your property’s fixed elements will have a significant impact on how a color will appear on your exterior. Our friends at Samplize offer extra-large 9 x 14.75 inch peel-and-stick paint samples of the colors we love for exteriors. Order your ‘Real Paint, No Mess’ samples from Samplize here.

Sea Pearl by Benjamin Moore

#6 // Soft White + Blue Hues + Pale Gray

There’s a reason this color combination shows up time and time again. This soft, lived-in palette fits well with French country homes, Cape Cod cottages and modern farmhouses. When pairing three colors together, look for a common undertone, like the soft blue hue of Benjamin Moore’s Wedgewood Gray. It’s definitely becoming one of our favorite on-trend modern house colors!

#7 // Shades of Brown

Embrace a little brown!  Try different shades of the same color family- Urbane Bronze, copper accents, and warm beige stone. Earthy shades are a 2021 DO. Browns also work well when paired with charcoals for things like doors and planters.
