The Before

The exterior of their new home was a challenge, especially with the large, set-in shingle siding accents and narrow sidewalk. Amanda knew that, with a professional eye, they could fall in love with the outside just as much as they did the inside.

We loved the floor plan, but were underwhelmed by the exterior. We had a few ideas of what we wanted to accomplish, but really didn’t have a clear idea of how to get the look we wanted.

The Design

Amanda thought brick&batten provided her with a “unique, classy, and quality working plan.”

To give Amanda’s home a modern farmhouse facelift, our brick&batten designers recommended painting the exterior with our 2021 exterior paint color of the year, the dreamy Benjamin Moore’s Seapearl. This creamy off-white brightened the home. Next, adding a wood accent with a walnut stain to the arched cladding accent, perfectly contrasted with the warmth of the Seapearl paint, helped them stand out as an intentional decorative element.

The new awning with cedar columns balances the façade and also provides much needed shelter from the elements for the owners and guests alike. The double doors were painted Black by Benjamin Moore, which coordinates with the updated windows and light fixtures.

Wider siding panels, a key characteristic of farmhouses, replace the original, more narrow planks on the upper level. Speaking of making things wider, check out that sidewalk! The narrow path before was indeed “underwhelming.” Widening the path and using large cut sandstone made the walk to the front door as grand as the house itself.

The ideas that brick&batten put together were far superior to anything we could have dreamed of creating on our own.

The Process

Amanda and her husband decided to leave the renovation to the professionals, as well. Having the design on hand while working with multiple contractors ensured a smooth experience.

We were able to easily get quotes to choose a contractor because we had a design, colors, and materials already selected. There was one point where the design saved us. We came home one day to discover the wrong materials were being put up by the contractor. By having the design the contract was based off of, the mistake was able to be corrected.

Amanda also expressed how impressed she was with brick&batten’s customer service and genuine enthusiasm for the transformation.

They showed interest in the project throughout the construction and completion, and seemed to actually enjoy receiving updates throughout. It was like having a friend celebrating the excitement with us throughout the process.

We absolutely love our home now. It is a treat to pull into our own driveway every day and think wow, we get to live here.

The new awning and sandstone sidewalk are just beautiful! Our designers’ detailed attention to all of the colors and materials used for the new design turned this home into a show-stopper.

We have gotten so many compliments from friends, neighbors, visitors, and strangers. Occasionally people driving by stop their cars in front of our home just to take it all in.
