Exterior Stone and White Paint Transform Kansas Home

Danielle B. found brick&batten on Instagram and fell in love with our designs. A few months later, she reached out to us for help updating her home in Kansas. We designed a fresh look for her house featuring exterior stone, a new color palette, and other cosmetic updates.

The before

When Danielle first purchased her home 15 years ago, there were plenty of updates she wanted to make, but she knew she’d have to wait a while to implement them. When she placed her order with us, she told us she wanted to make some cosmetic changes that would help her home stand out from others in her neighborhood. She was open to changing most aspects of her exterior, including the paint colors, doors, and entry area.

I decided to partner with brick&batten because I loved their options to tailor your selections to meet your needs. The experience was incredible. The staff was extremely helpful throughout the entire process and was always prompt in responding to all my questions.

The design

We provided Danielle with two color palette options for her home. The first one, pictured above, consists of Benjamin Moore’s White Dove on the new James Hardie siding and Black, also by Benjamin Moore, on the trim, front door, and garage door. We love the contrast created by the dark trim and off-white siding.

The second option, above, shows the siding rendered in Sherwin Williams’ Anonymous, a warm, earthy hue with versatility and depth. The trim, front door, and garage door are rendered in Black.

These designs also feature light exterior stone, a wood lintel over the windows and garage door, wood siding around the front door, new light fixtures, and a stone paver walkway. We also designed a covered patio area with sleek columns and a cozy seating area.

Danielle used her free revision to see some subtle changes to her exterior. This design features horizontal siding instead of vertical siding, a traditional-style garage door, and a more open patio area.

Our final design option for Danielle features a section of darker siding around the front door and a smaller patio with no seating area.

We always recommend sampling and testing paint colors before committing. Factors such as natural lighting, undertones, and your property’s fixed elements will have a significant impact on how a color will appear on your exterior. Our friends at Samplize offer extra-large 9 x 14.75 inch peel-and-stick paint samples of the colors we love for exteriors. Order your ‘Real Paint, No Mess’ samples from Samplize here.

The process

Danielle brought her brick&batten design to life with some help from a contractor and landscaper. Overall, she told us the renovation process took about 18 months to complete.

The actual after

Danielle opted for the lighter color palette option and a combination of elements from all our designs. She installed the light exterior stone, the black front door, wood lintels, light fixtures, and address numbers. She selected the modern garage door from our first two designs and proceeded with the smaller patio from our second revised design.

When we asked what her favorite part of her updated home exterior is, Danielle initially responded, “I love it all!” before calling out the new front door, garage door, and light fixtures

My favorite aspect of the transformation would be the front and garage door along with the light fixtures!  Together it created a much more modern and updated look.

A transformation worth waiting for

After living there for almost two decades, Danielle’s home finally got the makeover she’d been dreaming of. Her home’s fresh new look has even inspired some neighbors to upgrade their properties.

I absolutely love it! It is the perfect upgrade to the house I’ve lived in for over 15 years. Several of my neighbors have complimented the changes, and two recently have started some renovations of their own, which is great because it increases the property value and overall look of our neighborhood.

Exterior stone accents, new paint colors, and reimagined outdoor spaces can all transform the look of your home. We can help you visualize all these updates — and plenty more — before you commit and start making costly changes. Begin your exterior design project with brick&batten today.
