The before

Because the design options were nearly endless for Gary’s new build, he needed help refining his initial ideas. He knew the style he wanted but struggled to choose colors and materials that would feel equally timeless and contemporary.

We were having a hard time finalizing our design including, paint colors, masonry type and color, window trim, and color. After coming across an ad for brick&batten on Twitter, we thought it was the perfect way to visualize our ideas.

The design

Gary’s goal was to ensure that his home was the perfect embodiment of the modern farmhouse style he preferred. Our team developed two proposals for his home’s exterior. The first featured siding rendered in Graphite with window trim in Onyx, both by Benjamin Moore.

The second offered a lighter alternative, with siding painted with Deep Creek by Benjamin Moore and the same window trim color as the first option. Both were paired with rustic wood beams and natural stone accents.

Using his free revision, Gary discovered a third, higher-contrast color palette he loved. This version features white siding rendered in Alabaster by Sherwin Williams with window trim in Onyx and darker stone accents. This soft, off-white hue has warm undertones that complement the wooden accents and perfectly contrast with the dark windows and striking lakeside setting.

We always recommend sampling and testing paint colors before committing. Factors such as natural lighting, undertones, and your property’s fixed elements will have a significant impact on how a color will appear on your exterior. Our friends at Samplize offer extra-large 9 x 14.75 inch peel-and-stick paint samples of the colors we love for exteriors. Order your ‘Real Paint, No Mess’ samples from Samplize here.

The process

Gary worked with a local team of homebuilders, subcontractors, and a designer on his new build. Using his brick&batten rendering as a guide, Gary’s team carefully selected all of their materials. They chose the recommended materials or similar substitutions, ensuring they stayed as true to the original vision as possible.

After 19 months, Gary’s dream home was finished in the attention-grabbing, high-contrast shades chosen with our team’s help.
