Mid-century modern
Mid-century modern design is celebrated for its clean lines, organic forms, and seamless connection to nature. This style focuses on simplicity and functionality, and it’s a prime example of amplified modern home architecture. We kept the design of this mid-century modern home simple and sleek. Our designers used wood throughout to add warmth and emphasize natural materials. The sharp lines of the roof create a captivating aesthetic, which stands out since we kept the ornamentation subtle throughout.
Iconic for its bold use of geometric shapes and efficient use of space, mid-century modern continues to influence modern home design, making it a timeless choice for homeowners seeking a sophisticated and understated look.
Industrial
Industrial exterior design makes a bold statement in modern home architecture, drawing inspiration from old factories and urban warehouses. Known for its raw, unfinished aesthetic, this style features materials like exposed brick, steel, and concrete, creating a rugged yet refined look. In this design, the large, expansive windows and rigid stone framework define the structure, emphasizing function and durability while letting in ample natural light. Our designers incorporated black, iron and wood accents, blending urban grit with organic elements.
Industrial design also often incorporates minimalist landscaping, leaning into a simple and sleek design. Its unapologetic use of utilitarian materials and clean lines creates a striking modern exterior that stands out.
Contemporary
In modern home architecture, contemporary exterior design embraces the latest trends and innovations while maintaining a clean and elegant aesthetic, true to modern style. While often used interchangeably, contemporary and modern are not synonymous (though absolutely complementary). Modern design refers to a specific mid-20th century style, while contemporary design evolves with design trends of the present moment. Characterized by sleek lines, asymmetrical shapes, and large expanses of glass, contemporary homes emphasize open spaces and a strong connection to the outdoors.
For this home, we used cultured stone on the tallest section of the house, where the front door is, drawing the eye to the entrance. Our designers also embraced wood accents throughout for a natural feel. This contemporary design’s blend of materials like wood, stone, metal, and concrete, create texture and contrast that enhance the home’s visual appeal.
Minimalist
Minimalist exterior design is a particularly striking example of modern home architecture, stripping away unnecessary details to focus on clean lines and essential elements. Often characterized by neutral color palettes and simple features, minimalist homes create a sleek and uncluttered look. This design emphasizes open spaces and a straightforward color scheme with thoughtful, subtle landscaping, blending the layout seamlessly.
Infusing this minimalist exterior with a modern pergola is an impactful way to add visual interest to the entry space. We used black on the pergola to complement the door and the trim throughout, creating a cohesive look.
Coastal
Blending a breezy, laid back aesthetic with modern home architecture principles is the key to creating a fresh, contemporary coastal exterior. While our designers drew inspiration from seaside architecture for this home, we also incorporated modern elements like clean lines, light fixtures, and sleek pavers to emphasize simplicity and a connection to nature. The warm wood throughout gives the exterior a fresh, inviting essence that’s enhanced by the landscaping. We created a design that feels light and airy yet grounded in modern design for maximum curb appeal.

Modern ranch
We love the simple layout of a ranch-style home when we’re trying to amplify modern home architecture. Here, we infused a classic, single-story ranch home with sleek, modern elements to enhance the open layout. We used clean lines and minimalist detailing throughout, opting for a bold color palette with obvious contrast. Leaning further into popular modern design elements, we accentuated with wood for the window and garage trim, along with the front door.
Our designers also embraced black accents throughout the design to maintain contrast throughout. Ultimately, this modern ranch creates a relaxed yet sophisticated aesthetic that gives a fresh take on a classic architectural style.
Modern farmhouse
Modern farmhouse design merges the rustic charm of traditional farmhouses with sleek, modern elements. With hallmark features like warm whites, wood accents, and an expansive porch, this modern farmhouse design also incorporates clean lines and an open layout for a more polished look. We created a front porch space that flows right into the front yard, giving the aesthetic seamless fluidity.
Our designers accentuated impactfully with this modern design, matching the planters that flank the front door with the nearby seating space. We also matched the cushion on the porch swing to the exterior. Plus, our designers used the same light gray shade on the shutters and front door. This design gives country living a fresh take.
Modern traditional
Don’t make the mistake of pigeonholing traditional exteriors into a dated, classic exterior. This design style transcends into modern home architecture effortlessly. Modern traditional design blends the timeless elegance of classic architecture with the clean, simple lines of contemporary design. This exterior combines traditional elements like red brick, classic window frames, and rich materials with modern touches. From the black gutters and light fixtures to the bold double doors, the modern elements make this design stand out.
The juxtaposition of a timeless red brick exterior with sleek, modern elements creates a space that feels both warm and updated. By merging these two styles, modern traditional design achieves a perfect balance — offering the comfort and familiarity of tradition while embracing the simplicity and functionality of modern aesthetics.
