Earthy… The Buzz Word for 2019 Paint Colors

Earthy… The Buzz Word for 2019 Paint Colors

There, I said it!  It may not be the “pop of color” or the “grey trend” we have seen recently, but the buzz word for 2019 in exterior paint color is EARTHY.

Sit on your porch swing and take inventory of the colors you see in your natural environment.  Wood, leaves, flecks in the brick and stone, etc.  These are the colors to use on your home’s exterior.  At brick&batten, we spend time researching paint colors, attending workshops, and visiting different parts of the country to find the perfect colors for you.  What we see time and time again are earthy tones.  They blend harmoniously with brick and stone, as well as the natural elements around your home.

Doing earthy perfectly, mid-century modern homes deserve a standing O.  Mid-Centuries have mastered the colors, natural wood accents, how to use stone in the appropriate way, adding minimal landscape and simple lines.  The true beauty is in the architecture and how it blends with nature.

Some of our favorite earthy paint colors include:

Navajo White by Benjamin Moore.

Navajo White is a beautiful cream color with a blend of yellow and orange. Consequently, it’s soft enough to feel warm but not overpowering to feel bright.  It can stay alive in bright sunshine, as well as shade, Navajo White pairs well with wooden accents, traditional brick, and patina lighting.

Gray Huskie by Benjamin Moore.

Gray Huskie

Furthermore, Gray Huskie seems to be the perfect gray!  Gray Huskie  works well with a variety of lighting and can be used inside or outside.  It is considered warm, with mild blue undertones, Gray Huskie  is smooth and pleasing to the eye.  That being said, when doing gray for your home exterior, don’t be afraid to go a shade darker than you would for an indoor space. Gray Huskie is definitely a strong contender for an earthy favorite.

We always recommend sampling and testing paint colors before committing. Factors such as natural lighting, undertones, and your property’s fixed elements will have a significant impact on how a color will appear on your exterior. Our friends at Samplize offer extra-large 9 x 14.75 inch peel-and-stick paint samples of the colors we love for exteriors. Order your ‘Real Paint, No Mess’ samples from Samplize here.

Dovetail by Sherwin Williams.

Dovetail is a slightly warm, gray, stony color.  This gray shade works well with most stone on home exteriors. Don’t be surprised if Dovetail appears darker in some light; however, Dovetail will stay warm and lends itself to a cozy space without appearing too dark.

Kendall Charcoal by Benjamin Moore.

Kendall Charcoal by Benjamin Moore is a brick&batten favorite.  This is a  gorgeous gray color that may be used as an exterior house color or accent wall inside. Its versatile dramatic effect doesn’t reflect any unwanted undertones.  We have all noticed  an upswing in dark paint in 2019, and Kendall Charcoal is definitely a color we are drawn towards and appreciate.

As you peruse Pinterest or stand at the local hardware store staring at paint swatches, think earthy.  Think natural.  Think of colors you see in the environment.
