#1 // Simple home gets new wrap around porch
The owner of this simple, rustic home was looking for a wrap around porch — along with several other exterior updates — to coordinate with their newer green metal roof. Our designers emphasized the rural setting with a porch that has thick wood column supports and a gable with an exposed truss over the front door.
#2 // German smear on historic home’s porch
We gave a German smear treatment to the brick on the columns, steps, and half wall of this historic home’s gorgeous wrap around porch. This choice gives some texture and subtle color to the home’s white-and-black color palette. Plentiful exterior lighting, in the form of both sconces and pendants, and a porch swing complete the picture.
#3 // Sprawling ranch gets new porch
Our designers helped the owners of this sprawling ranch visualize this wrap around porch from scratch. Previously, there had only been a few steps walking up to the uncovered front entry — this new porch greatly increases the home’s usable square footage! Additionally, the porch’s wood ceiling ties in with the columns and updated front door.
#4 // Farmhouse wrap
We wrapped the main level of this farmhouse with a large porch, and we love the result. In the first before and after above, which is the front view of the home, you can tell where the homeowners added on. The siding is in two slightly different colors, plus the panels have different dimensions. Our designers chose to end one side of the wrap around porch between the original home and the addition, making the differences between the two seem intentional. A gable helps guests distinguish which is the front entryway. Immediately above, the other side of the massive porch is accessible by a wide walkway with built-in lighting.
#5 // Screened-in wrap around porch addition
Here’s another farmhouse that was completely transformed by the addition of a wrap around porch. However, this client was looking for a screened-in porch. We love how the double doors leading into the screened-in porch allowed us to build some symmetry into what was an awkwardly off-balance main level. Plus, they replicate the look of the double entry doors, tying things together.
#6 // Transitional open porch
This suburban home has a fully custom feel thanks to thoughtful exterior design. The wide wrap around porch is open, with no rails. This allows the eye to travel past the thick porch columns straight to the stone veneer accent, which is replicated in the retaining wall and around the garage doors. Our designers also made use of browns to warm up the exterior, on everything from the porch columns to the front door to the color of the roof shingles.
#7 // Small wrap on a new build
This new build home has a wide porch with a teeny wrap around section over to the right — just enough for a few planters and to offer some balance to the visually heavy left side of the home. We used a metal roofing material on this porch as well as on the large dormer above. Finally, the stone on the base of the porch columns is the same as that used on the house skirting, grounding the façade.
#8 // Porch-deck-balcony
Because of the slope this home is on, it’s hard to determine whether we’re dealing with a wrap around porch or a deck or a balcony. Either way, the space is killer, and we love what our designers did with it. On the back side of the home (first image above), we added a second covered area to the right. This is perfect for an outdoor kitchen and dining setup. We connected this area to the edge of the wrap around porch by extending the deck and adding twinkle lights above. Notably, on the side of the home, we took advantage of the balcony overhang to add a pair of swinging chairs to the lower level outdoor lounge.
