Trend Forecasting

Earth tone colors were wildly popular in 2023, and we predict this trend will continue in 2024. (You can see our full list of the best Benjamin Moore paint colors for 2023 here.)

In addition to green hues and other nature-inspired shades, our designers also embraced the dark side in 2023. In 2024, we expect this to continue, with plenty of charcoal and near-black colors showing up in our work.

When putting together our list of the best Benjamin Moore exterior paint colors for 2024, we also examined what the company itself predicts will be on trend in the coming year. According to Benjamin Moore’s color trends report, we’re going to be seeing a lot of saturated shades inspired by travel. Some of our tried-and-true favorites, including White Dove and Regent Green, are featured in Benjamin Moore’s report.

Are you ready to learn what Benjamin Moore exterior paint colors we’re keeping an eye on in 2024? Keep reading to find out!

#1 // Chantilly Lace

Chantilly Lace is a beautiful, bright white that looks amazing on many home styles, but we find it particularly fitting for traditional houses. With an LRV of 92.2, it’s one of the starkest whites available, loved by many for exterior paint projects. (Not sure what LRV means? We break down everything you need to know, including why it’s important to consider LRV when selecting a paint color for your home, here.)

Since it has essentially no undertones, Chantilly Lace is great for homes facing any direction and pairs well with just about any color. This nearly pure white acts as a blank canvas to which you can add color on doors, shutters, trim, and other accents.

Chantilly Lace works well on a variety of cladding materials, including brick, stucco, and Hardie Board siding. If you’re seeking a crisp look and would like to stay in the white color family, Chantilly Lace might be the perfect fit.

Cloud White rendered on a two-story farmhouse, with black shutters, and bright white trim.

#2 // Cloud White

Cloud White is a warmer and creamier white than Chantilly Lace, but it’s just as versatile. Since it does have slight yellow undertones, it’s considered an off-white. With that said, its LRV of 87.35 is high enough that even in shaded areas it’s going to appear white rather than yellow.

We’ve paired Cloud White with many other colors like Benjamin Moore’s Boothbay Gray and Sherwin Williams’ Agreeable Gray and Pale Oak. Our designers love to apply it as a central color just as much as an accent color. Cloud White is equally as versatile when it comes to the types of homes it looks good on. We’ve used the hue on traditional-style homes, cozy cottages, and more.

Small cottage with wood door, copper fixtures, and black windows.

#3 // Cape May Cobblestone

A warm greige with brown and slight green undertones, Cape May Cobblestone is an excellent option for those who love the earth tone trend and want a warm, inviting exterior.

Cape May Cobblestone works well when paired with lighter hues, but we also use it in conjunction with darker shades to create contrast. Wood elements and copper accents complement Cape May Cobblestone nicely. Cape May Cobblestone has an LRV of 40.14, and while it’s considered a true neutral, it can appear slightly warmer in full sun.

If you’re looking for a timeless, elegant exterior paint color, consider Cape May Cobblestone.

WE ALWAYS RECOMMEND SAMPLING AND TESTING PAINT COLORS BEFORE COMMITTING. FACTORS SUCH AS NATURAL LIGHTING, UNDERTONES, AND YOUR PROPERTY’S FIXED ELEMENTS WILL HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON HOW A COLOR WILL APPEAR ON YOUR EXTERIOR. OUR FRIENDS AT SAMPLIZE OFFER EXTRA-LARGE 9 X 14.75 INCH PEEL-AND-STICK PAINT SAMPLES OF THE COLORS WE LOVE FOR EXTERIORS. ORDER YOUR ‘REAL PAINT, NO MESS’ SAMPLES FROM SAMPLIZE HERE.

Large traditional home with wood corbels, wood columns, and a tone-on-tone color palette.

#4 // Pale Oak

Our love of Pale Oak — another greige with warm undertones — is strong. We’ve designed many homes with this hue as the field color and as an accent color.

Pale Oak really shines when it’s used on a textured surface like brick or stucco. We love to pair it with darker paint colors, but it also looks lovely as part of a more tonal look as seen in the design above.

If you’re searching for a hue that’s both trendy and timeless, look no further than Pale Oak.

Amherst Gray, as one of the best Benjamin Moore exterior paint color for 2024, on a modern two-story A-frame cabin.

#5 // Amherst Gray

Time to dip our toes into the dark side of exterior design. With an LRV of 17.12, Amherst Gray is the first darker color on our list.

This medium-dark warm gray paint color has slight green undertones that will be more noticeable in lush, natural environments. Wood accents, copper elements, and stone cladding all work well with Amherst Gray. It’s a great choice for traditional homes, especially when paired with a crisp white trim (looking at you, Chantilly Lace).

One of the best Benjamin Moore exterior paint color for 2024, Gray Huskie on a two-story modern farmhouse.

#6 // Gray Huskie

Gray Huskie, a mild gray with a slight blue undertone, is effortlessly sophisticated and highly adaptable. It’s a classic color that can stand the test of time but can also be contemporary. Stone, wood, or black and white accents elevate this gorgeous gray.

Rockport Gray by Benjamin Moore with white trim and natural stone skirting.

#7 // Rockport Gray

Rockport Gray is a warm neutral we find ourselves using again and again in all sorts of applications. With an LRV of 35.65, it’s a medium-toned paint color with a cozy warmth to it.

Cape Cods, craftsman-style homes, and traditional dwellings all look fantastic with Rockport Gray on the exterior. Natural stone, white trim, copper, and wood all play nicely with Rockport Gray. The hue also works with red brick, a material that’s notoriously difficult to design with.

Blacktop, one of the best Benjamin Moore exterior paint color for 2024, on a modern farmhouse with wood columns and black windows.

#8 // Blacktop

Desire a dramatic look? Blacktop is sure to deliver. This sleek shade has an LRV of 5.94 — and it packs quite the punch. It has cool undertones with a chalkboard appearance. As seen above, simple accents do well since Blacktop is already so bold. Monochromatic color palettes are great, however, a soft white trim could also look equally as good if it’s on a Craftsman or lakeside home. If you want curb appeal that makes heads turn, Blacktop is sure to do it.

Cheating Heart by Benjamin Moore with white trim, black windows, and wood accents.

#9 // Cheating Heart

Coming in a tad lighter than Blacktop with an LRV of 6.89, Cheating Heart is one of our go-to black exterior paint colors. It’s deep, dramatic, and makes a strong statement.

In shaded environments, this complex color will take on a more true-to-black tone. In the sunlight, it can appear more blue-black. When we have clients request we keep their natural red brick in their design, Cheating Heart is a color we often consider as an accent. The beautiful black hue juxtaposed with orange or red brick creates a classic look reminiscent of a historic brownstone building.

A dark green modern cottage with wood lintels, garage door, and black windows.

#10 // Ashwood Moss

Ashwood Moss is a graphite-green hue we love using on rustic homes, though it looks lovely on all sorts of house styles. Above, we’ve paired it with black trim, however, we also really like to pair Ashwood Moss with soft whites and light greiges like Benjamin Moore’s Baby Fawn for a more traditional style.

The green in Ashwood Moss will be much more prominent in settings with lots of natural light.

Desert Twilight by Benjamin Moore on a multi-textured home with wood columns, white trim, and a tall chimney.

#11 // Desert Twilight

Modern but earthy, classic yet trendy — Desert Twilight does it all. This gorgeous nature-inspired hue is incredibly versatile, and we plan to use a lot more of it in 2024.

From brick and Hardie Board (both shown above) to stucco, Desert Twilight shines on all sorts of building materials. Like other earthy tones, the pairing options for Desert Twilight consist of black, white, wood, copper, and natural stone to complement the gray and brown undertones.

Our designers like to apply Desert Twilight as a central color, but we’ve had stunning results using it as an accent color to whites like Benjamin Moore’s Ballet White.

Rear exterior design of a home with a backyard plunge pool

#12 // Sage Mountain

Sage Mountain by Benjamin Moore is a lovely taupe with green undertones. We like to see it on coastal, contemporary, and mid-century ranchers. With the right color pairings, it can be considered traditional and timeless too. In the rendering above, Sage Mountain with black creates a sleek, modern look. This also shows how important accent colors are when creating specific moods and styles.

Industrial style house with Blue Note, one of our top Benjamin Moore exterior paint colors 2024, on the brick

#13 // Blue Note

Despite its name, Blue Note is actually a black hue with strong navy undertones. It’s moody, it’s dark, and it’s a showstopper.

The industrial-inspired design above perfectly showcases Blue Note’s capabilities. Greiges, like Sherwin Williams’ Urban Bronze, are a good choice for color pairings, as are blacks and whites (soft or crisp). Natural stone for skirting or cladding brings out the cool tones, while materials like wood and copper add warmth to Blue Note. Contemporary and mid-century homes would benefit from a color palette incorporating this hue.

Dark navy blue cottage with chunky white trim, white front door, and black metal roof featuring one of our Benjamin Moore exterior paint colors 2024

#14 // Polo Blue

Polo Blue is a near-black, dark navy that’s classic and timeless. It’s also moody and capable of making a strong statement.

We love Polo Blue when paired with chunky white trim. This color combination suits craftsman-style homes, farmhouses, and even coastal or modern waterfront homes particularly well. Our designers have used this deep navy on other home styles as well, such as mid-century modern and contemporary homes.

Gray, black, and brown are other colors that can be paired with Polo Blue. If a fun door color is something you had in mind, Wasabi by Benjamin Moore would be just the amount of color pop you need.
