2019 Exterior Paint Favorites from the Benjamin Moore Palette

The Benjamin Moore palette has proven to have some 2019 exterior paint favorites. More than any other forecast that comes out when it comes to color, brick&batten mainly relies on the manufacturers to predict what will be on trend in the coming months and years.  They have the most knowledge when it comes to tools/information to predict what colors we will gravitate toward next. We are always blown away by the precision that the paint manufacturers have when it comes to color forecasting.  Consequently, they are about 12-18 months ahead of mainstream consumers in their color trend forecasting.  Meaning, we can predict what will be coming over a year before the rest of the country catches on.  However, while there can be some variation in tone and style, timeless is always the goal at brick&batten…even when on trend!

Things are warming up in 2019!  Just like when I walk through West Elm or any on trend design store and I see the Aztec print rug calling me or the Midcentury design beckoning…these subtle cues are part of that warmth that is extending to the exteriors of our homes.  As 2019 approaches, the big paint manufacturers put out lists of colors that will be hot (no pun intended) in the new year.  Here is a glimpse of some of the colors making it onto exteriors.  Of course, brick&batten clients were ahead of this in 2018 as we see many of these colors on our homes already.    We will purposely exclude white from this list as it gets its own list.

2019 Exterior Paint Favorites From the Benjamin Moore Palette:

  1. Kendall Charcoal by Benjamin Moore:   This is a warm neutral that has depth and sophistication.  This color is very rich and the perfect canvas to pair with copper, wood, and other design elements.  It has that warmth that we are seeing for 2019, but enough depth not to feel boring.  With a Light Pewter trim and Walnut stained garage doors, the design is beautiful. Kendall Charcoal has been a brick&batten favorite forever and is on the 2019 Benjamin Moore Palette.

2.  Balboa Mist by Benjamin Moore: This color is a whisper of a soft, warm gray.  Again, warm is what is trending in 2019.  This color is a light backdrop to showcase lighting and other design elements.  With an LRV of 67, it reflects light perfectly for the outdoors.  It also has just enough depth to contrast nicely with white trims.

3.  Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore:  This color is as timeless as it is on trend for 2019!  It made the list for a million reasons, but mostly because it just works effortlessly.  If you are looking for a deep blue for your exterior, look no further.  This color has just the right mix of cool and warm undertones, that it can be paired with all different types of materials and colors.  From rich autumn reds and maroons to crisp white to exposed woodwork, Hale Navy wins!

We always recommend sampling and testing paint colors before committing. Factors such as natural lighting, undertones, and your property’s fixed elements will have a significant impact on how a color will appear on your exterior. Our friends at Samplize offer extra-large 9 x 14.75 inch peel-and-stick paint samples of the colors we love for exteriors. Order your ‘Real Paint, No Mess’ samples from Samplize here.

2019 Benjamin Moore Color of the Year:

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that the color of the year for Benjamin Moore is Metropolitan…

“Metropolitan AF-690 emanates nuance, harmony and extravagant ease. Always adaptable, it softens to matte or shimmers with sheen. It’s neutral. It’s understated. It just is. This is color, off-duty.”
